RIFM VP Anne Marie Api interviewed in Perfumer & Flavorist

Anne Marie Api, PhD, Vice President of the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM), was recently interviewed by Perfumer and Flavorist to explore the Creme-RIFM Aggregate Exposure Model and its impact on fragrance safety. The Model — developed by Creme Global, a scientific modeling, data analytics, and computing company, in partnership with RIFM — is attracting attention in the fragrance industry owing to Creme Global’s recent decision to make the model more broadly accessible.

As Dr. Api explains, the Model was “built on large volumes of market survey and scientific data from a wide variety of peer-reviewed and validated sources. It has helped refine the fragrance industry’s assessment of materials and has made a substantial impact on the improvement of consumer safety of fragrances.” The model estimates aggregate (total) exposure to fragrance materials in 71 product types, including personal care products, cosmetics, household, and air-care products. About the Model

The Research Institute for Fragrance Materials, Inc. (RIFM.org) and Creme Global (Cremeglobal.com), a scientific modeling, data analytics, and computing company, partnered to develop an aggregate exposure model for fragrance materials (i.e., the total exposure coming from all different sources). This model looks at the exposure resulting from different fragrance materials used across various cosmetic, personal, household, and air care products. RIFM has used the model for more than six years to help refine the assessment of fragrance materials. As a result, it has substantially impacted the improvement of consumer safety of fragrances and the reduction of animal testing.
