Advancing Fragrance Safety at SOT: Dan Selechnik, Ph.D., presents on the iTTC project

3.9.23

As part of RIFM’s many collaborative efforts, RIFM scientists will share their research with the larger toxicology community at the Society of Toxicology (SOT) 62nd Annual Meeting and ToxExpo on March 19th-23rd.

During the event, Daniel Selechnik, Ph.D., Senior Scientist, Repeated Dose Toxicity, will present on an ongoing collaboration between RIFM, Procter & Gamble, Cosmetics Europe, and the American Chemistry Council to establish Internal Threshold of Toxicological Concern (iTTC) values.

Dr. Selechnik will present as part of the Risk Assessment II session beginning at 2:30 PM on March 21st.

The iTTC combines the Threshold of Toxicological Concern (TTC) concept from toxicology with the internal dose from pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PBPK). This combination makes rapid prioritization and risk assessment possible as part of a New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) toolbox.

“The TTC is an established exposure limit used for risk-based screening and prioritization, and currently, scientists derive TTC values from external exposures,” Dr. Selechnik explains. “Once RIFM and colleagues derive internal TTC values, we can use these data to refine and enhance an existing animal-alternative form of risk assessment or possibly even to develop a novel approach.”

Moving forward, RIFM and collaborators will also be working with the International Collaboration on Cosmetics Safety to proceed with the project’s next steps.
