Advancing RIFM’s Science: RIFM shares its Safety Assessment process with German assessors

Earlier this month, RIFM’s Safety Assessment Manager, Danielle Botelho, PhD, presented on RIFM’s Safety Assessment process for safety assessors of the German Society for Scientific and Applied Cosmetics (DGK) and the German Cosmetic, Toiletry, Perfumery and Detergent Association (IKW). Dr. Botelho delivered her presentation, “Evaluating the Safety of Perfume Ingredients,” at the Scientific Conference on Safety Assessment “Safety Is the Key,” held in Petersberg, Germany. More than 100 fragrance safety stakeholders attended the event.

“It was an incredible opportunity to address our colleagues in Germany. DGK and IKW hosted a phenomenal cross-section of experts that facilitated not just excellent content but great conversation and collaboration throughout the event,” Dr. Botelho explained. “I learned so much, but what I appreciated most was connecting with other experts in-person and making relational inroads to keep the conversation going in the days ahead. Everyone there was PASSIONATE about consumer safety, so there is a great foundation to build from in the future.”
DGK recently added an ongoing RIFM feature in the Literature section of its website. Thus far, RIFM has provided DGK with an Introduction to RIFM and its Safety Assessment Process, which lays out a general overview of how RIFM assesses the safety of discrete (individual) and NCS (plant-extracted) fragrance materials. The feature also includes a link to the Fragrance Material Safety Resource Center, where all fragrance safety stakeholders can read and download open-access PDFs of all RIFM’s peer-reviewed and published Safety Assessments and Research.
