Advancing RIFM’s collaborative animal-alternative science for European dermatotoxicologists

6.10.24

The Research Institute for Fragrance Materials’ Senior Associate Scientist for Dermatotoxicology, Isabella Schember, PhD, will participate at the 11th meeting of Immunotoxicology & Chemical Allergy (ITCASS) and the 30th meeting of European Research Group on Experimental Contact Dermatitis (ERGECD) in Liverpool, United Kingdom, June 12-14, 2024.

Dr. Schember will present work in collaboration with Procter & Gamble to evaluate chemical structures for their potential use in the PPRA, an animal-alternative skin assay, on June 13, 2024, 12:50-14:30 Greenwich Mean Time.

“This is a great opportunity to highlight some of RIFM’s work in New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) for skin sensitization,” Dr. Schember explained. “My presentation exemplifies how to incorporate the PPRA in the 2 out of 3 Defined Approach. This is based on a Weight of Evidence (WoE) approach for safety assessment of fragrance ingredients to improve the in vitro prediction of skin sensitization.”

Who: Isabella Schember, PhD, RIFM Senior Associate Scientist, Dermatotoxicology

What: “Assessing skin sensitization potential of fragrance ingredients using the peroxidase peptide reactivity assay”

Where: Metabolism and Skin Sensitization Session, The 11th meeting of ITCASS  and the 30th meeting of ERGECD, Liverpool, UK

When: June 13, 2024, 12:50-14:30 Greenwich Mean Time
