Advancing RIFM’s NAMs science for South American toxicologists
4.12.24
The Research Institute for Fragrance Materials’ Senior Scientist for Chemistry and Genotoxicity Holger Moustakas, PhD, will participate at the International Union of Toxicology’s XII Congress of Toxicology in Developing Countries in Santiago, Chile, April 15–18, 2024.
Dr. Moustakas will share RIFM’s cutting-edge science in two forms: a live presentation (“Use of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) for Genotoxicity Safety Assessment”) and a poster (“Development and Application of Structural Activity Groups for Chemical Classification and Clustering as a Non-animal Method for Safety Assessment”).
“I’m looking forward to introducing the South American audience to RIFM and our strategy for genotoxicity safety assessment,” Dr. Moustakas explained. “This is a great opportunity to highlight RIFM’s leadership in developing New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) for genotoxicity. In particular, I will discuss the 3D skin micronucleus and Toxtracker assays and how they can reduce the need for in vivo (animal) testing.”
Dr. Moustakas’s live presentation will occur during the Carcinogenesis: Exploring Fundamentals, Models, and their Application to Human Health session on April 15, 2024, at 2:30 PM CLT (Chile Standard Time). He will be on hand to discuss his poster on April 16, 17, and 18 from 12:30 to 2:00 PM CLT.
“Both topics I am presenting focus on reducing and replacing animal tests,” Dr. Moustakas continued. “My live presentation highlights new testing methods that allow us to generate new data without using animals, whereas my poster outlines how we can efficiently group materials to avoid further testing. I am thrilled to be able to attend the XII Congress of Toxicology in Developing Countries, as it will allow RIFM to make new connections in South America that we expect to lead to many fruitful conversations and collaborations.”
