As regulatory approaches to chemical safety continue to evolve worldwide, findings on developmental and reproductive toxicity are receiving increasing attention from regulators, policymakers, advocacy groups, and the scientific community. At the same time, questions often arise about how results observed in laboratory studies relate to real-world human exposure and consumer safety.

This webinar examined how toxicological findings generated under controlled laboratory conditions are interpreted within the context of realistic consumer exposure scenarios and broader scientific evidence. Viewers will gain insight into how toxicologists evaluate the relevance of high-dose study findings, assess human exposure, and apply a weight-of-evidence approach to determine whether observed effects are meaningful for human health.

The session also introduces RIFM’s new Developmental and Reproductive Toxicity Data Summary, an important component of a broader initiative to organize, evaluate, and communicate complex safety data in a transparent and scientifically rigorous manner. The summary serves as a foundation for expert interpretation of developmental and reproductive toxicity information and supports a comprehensive weight-of-evidence strategy that integrates hazard identification, exposure considerations, mechanistic understanding, and scientific judgment.
