Research Institute for Fragrance Materials and American Society of Perfumers to present The Science Behind What You Create

MAHWAH, New Jersey, September 22, 2026 – The Research Institute for Fragrance Materials and the American Society of Perfumers will present The Science Behind What You Create: Fragrance Safety Brought to Life on Wednesday, November 18, 2026, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Fairfield Hotel & Suites, 690 US-46, Fairfield, NJ 07004.
Created for professional perfumers and others working across the fragrance community, the program will explain how RIFM safety assessments support the ingredients available to creators. Anne Marie Api, PhD, Fellow ATS, President of RIFM, and Danielle Botelho, PhD, Director of Scientific Operations, will discuss the role of exposure science, independent review, non-animal methods, and Maximum Acceptable Concentrations (MAC) in fragrance safety assessment.
RIFM’s MAC values form the scientific foundation for the IFRA Standards. They are developed from peer-reviewed scientific data and realistic consumer exposure information, then reviewed by an independent Expert Panel. This system supports both fragrance safety and continued access to the materials perfumers use.
The event will run from 9:00 AM to noon Eastern Time, beginning with breakfast and networking. The presentation will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by guided scent sampling. The program will be open to all. Registration is $50 for ASP and RIFM members and $60 for all other attendees.
