RIFM Consumer Product Survey 2026 – Data Request for 10 Product Categories

5.28.26

Completion Date: August 31, 2026

Request for Fragrance Compound Concentration Data

Exposure data are essential for completing safety assessments for all human health endpoints. RIFM, together with member company representatives and Creme Global (a well-established industry partner in exposure modeling for cosmetics and foods using methodologies accepted by regulators), developed a probabilistic aggregate exposure model to calculate total systemic exposure using distributions to model various parameters. This model enables the measurement of real-life consumer exposure to fragrance materials.

A description of the model and its uses has been published in Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology. Please contact RIFM if you would like copies of these papers or download them at FragranceMaterialSafetyResource.elsevier.com. In addition, several webinars on the RIFM Creme Aggregate Exposure Model are available in the Member area of the RIFM website at RIFM.org.

Two types of concentration data are needed for this model. One type is the concentration of the fragrance ingredient in the fragrance mixture. Only fragrance suppliers can respond to these concentration surveys because only they know the levels of fragrance ingredients in the fragrance mixture. RIFM has surveyed these data since 2013, and the current survey is Concentration Survey 052.

The second type of data is the concentration of fragrance mixture in the final product. These data can only be supplied by consumer product companies. This survey addresses that second data type. The survey is open to all consumer product companies. It was agreed that these data would be surveyed every 5–6 years to capture products added to the model and account for changes in marketing trends. The last survey was conducted in 2023, and the 10 product categories included in this survey were not part of the 2023 survey.

Download this Excel document and refer to the following:

  • The first worksheet in the Excel file contains the 10 cosmetic and household products included in this limited survey: facial masks (rinse-off), sunscreens, baby body wash, baby liquid hand soap, baby nappy cream, baby face and body cream, body oil/massage oil/facial moisturizing oil, baby powder, bleach, and disinfectant.
  • The first worksheet is the document that must be used to complete the survey. The first row lists the consumer products. Please provide all concentrations of fragrance mixtures used in these product types for currently marketed products only. Please do not enter data for products that are no longer in use. In addition, please include products with no fragrance compounds (enter zero use for all products that do not contain fragrance compounds).
  • The second worksheet contains instructions for completing the survey. Of note:
    • Facial Masks (Rinse-Off) refer to clay, cloth, gel, self-heating, and other mask formats intended to be rinsed off after application. See the “Definitions” sheet for full descriptions and the complete list.
    • Sunscreens are included in the product types. These are defined as products intended exclusively for protection from the sun.
    • Users with an account from a previous L2 survey can use that account for submission.
  • The third and final worksheet describes all consumer products included in this survey.

After completing the survey, each submitter must create a unique account (i.e., usernames and passwords) by completing this form: Forms.gle/8K8Y59CZxp2cbeLL9. Users with an account from a previous L2 survey can use that preexisting account for submission.

The completed sheets should then be submitted to:
rifml2survey.cremedatafoundry.com

All data will remain confidential and will be entered into the model, but the data sources will not be made available.

Please complete and return this survey by August 31, 2026.
